Four matches are all it takes to become a champion in Canada if you are a Fury. Some people work for years just to finally get a shot at a lower tier title in the professional wrestling industry. But of course, Dick Fury isn’t just some people. No, he comes from a long linage of champions, and this coming Monday night Fury will become the next to be awarded a major championship.
Up until now, most people have known Dick only for his YouTube videos that have a bit of sleaze, an ounce of sexual innuendo, and a whole lot of silky smooth chest hair. But do they really know who he is and where he comes from? No, they do not. This is finally it; everything is on the line with Dick taking on Chris Madison. But to truly appreciate the events at hand, you have to look back and see what makes this so special. You have to look directly at who Dick really is.
Lets take it back to the mid 1970’s. David Matthew Wingate and his brother John Wingate both had come up on the wrestling scene. They were never international superstars, but they made their mark in the industry. It was during this time period both brothers would have multiple children. David brought us James, Brian, Allen, and Sarah while John gave the world Jerry and Janette.
Early in their lives, each of the children fell in love with the sport and began training with their fathers. When James was 16 he took the last name “Fury” from a video game to use and went by his middle name. He would be known as Matt Fury. As his siblings and cousins joined suit, they too would take the last name Fury.
Matt and Jerry were the first to have their own children, James Jr. and Richard. As Matt became internationally known, winning multiple top tier championships the entire family became a hot commodity. During this time he would begin to train his son, Richard, and a young man named Johnny.
In the 90’s and 2000’s the Fury family would become one of the most famous wrestling families in history, winning many championships over the course of the years. Children were inspired to be like their hero Matt. Unfortunately in 2008, the world lost James Matthew Wingate, better known as Matt “The Hitman” Fury.
However, his son, Richard, and Johnny would soon be getting their breaks.
As Johnny would go by the name Johnny Legend, he quickly made a name for himself on the independent scene before heading to places like NGW and HOW where he would bring Matt Fury Jr. with him. Richard though, enjoyed the smaller venues and fan interaction spending the majority of his early years in the industry in and around Los Angeles.
If you haven’t put it together yet, Richard is none other than Dick Fury.
But who am I to tell the tale of Dick Fury? I am just an unseen narrator speaking to no one in particular. This is life. There are no constant cameras rolling. There are no real looks into the life of these men who every week step into a ring and face each other for people they have never meant. No, I am not the one who means anything to this story. Dick Fury is the protagonist and only he can give you the inside looks. But not this week. No, there is no funny YouTube videos displaying Dick making, well, Dick jokes at Chris Madison. There is no speaking in third person from a man with a destiny.
This week, he is just preparing, mentally for what comes next.
The Canadian Pro X Heavyweight Championship, and Dick Fury’s win over Chris Madison.
