Brett Starr: Remind me Jacob...Was it always this f**king cold?
Starr is standing outside of the Windsor Airport huddled as much as he can be in his grey winter parka that his girlfriend Chelsey bought him before he left Los Angeles. Windsor certainly is as cold as advertised...the city so cold that they put "winds" in the title. It's the kind of cold December day where you believe if you breathe out too much the breath will freeze in place and crash into the ground. Starr is showing his displeasure with this unfortunate turn of events by bothering his poor dorky assistant who is carrying an obscene amount of baggage on his shoulders.
Jacob Knox: Well, it is Canada. The Great WHITE North. Did you really expect mid seventies and sunny?
Brett looks sideways at Jacob with a look that conveys how unimpressed he is with the smart ass remark. Jacob smirks a bit because if you told him a few weeks ago that he would be cracking wise at his boss he would have never believed you.
Brett Starr: No one likes a smart ass kid.
Jacob Knox: Is that why so many people hate you?
Brett Starr: Everyone loves me. I'm the exception to the rule. There is always one loophole. Always.
Starr claps Jacob's back which makes the kid's glasses slide off his nose and get stuck on his mouth. Jacob tries to use his right hand to place them back into place but the four bag straps he has on that arm begin to slide down. Knox's body shifts over to that side as a reaction to the sudden shift of weight and the young man almost falls to the ground but Starr reaches out and grabs his left arm. Starr jerks him up suddenly and puts the kid's glasses back into place.
Brett Starr: Jesus kid...Pull yourself together man! Don't be such an embarrassment this week...Alright?
Knox nods silently and looks down to the ground. Starr keeps an eye on the street ahead of them as they await for their ride to arrive.
Brett Starr: This is one of the reasons I hate this damn country. I get booked for a speaking engagement...and they can't get their stuff together enough to line up the town car to actually arrive on time.
Jacob Knox: I'm sure they just got caught up in traffic or something. They will be here. They promised me on the phone that they would arrive as soon as possible. They said-
Brett Starr: to meet them outside of baggage claim area. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's why we are here and SURPRISE SURPRISE...they aren't. Stupid Canadians.
Canadians comes out of Starr's mouth with a hint of pure and utter disdain that makes Knox's eyes go wide with wonder. Why does Brett hate Canada so much? This country gave him his start in the business. He actually has a decent fan base up here because they have almost adopted him as one of their own. Starr got stopped for like 25 autograph and picture requests in Terminal B alone. Why the hatred?
Jacob Knox: They'll be here soon...
At least Jacob hopes they will be. Starr crosses his arms over his chest and lets out a heavy sigh which comes out like smoke out of a factory.
Brett Starr: You know...I must be some kind of real idiot. What am I thinking? Coming back to Canadian X Pro after Angelo Valour and his dipsh*t brother did to it the first time around?
Jacob Knox: Wasn't his brother your friend?
Brett Starr: Shut up. That isn't important. The Valour morons ran that company into the ground. I was lucky I cashed my last check before they pulled out all of the money from the account and took off to God knows where! And now looks where I am...
Starr places his hands in the front pockets of his heavy coat and looks around at the lack of scenery with disdain and hatred burning in his eyes.
Brett Starr: Windsor...disgusting. Why? WHY DID I RESIGN?
Jacob Knox: I believe you said it was the extra zero Angelo put at the end of the signing bonus. Oh, and the Heavyweight Championship opportunity.
Starr grins and chuckles for a second at the thought...His first Heavyweight Championship is only a few short days away. Brett could almost feel the cool metal on the plate on his fingertips. Being the first Canadian X Pro Heavyweight Champion that actually mattered was too much of a great opportunity to pass up.
Brett Starr: Oh yeah. That's it. I guess I can handle a few crappy nights in Canada. At least I'm getting rewarded handsomely for it.
Starr hears someone pulling off the road and slowly approaching the pickup area of the airport. A nice black limousine that has a Canadian flag vanity plate on the front slowly comes to a stop in front of the men and parks. The driver gets out and walks over to where Starr is standing.
Driver Hello Mister Starr...I just wanted to apologize for my tardiness...but I also wanted to mention that I am a huge fan. The way you talk trash on Twitter and then back it up-
Starr holds his hand up to stop the man from speaking as he nods. Starr is sick of hearing it. These peons actually believe they have the right to talk to him.
Brett Starr: Thanks bro. Mind if I get in? I'm pretty damn cold.
The driver's eyes open wide and he slaps his forehead at his own stupidity.
Driver Oh of course! I get carried away sometimes. Sorry boss.
The driver opens the door for Starr and begins to help Jacob get the various luggage into the trunk. Starr shakes his head at the pair of morons getting the baggage untangled as he slides into the backseat. Starr gets situated and looks forward...when he does he exhales deeply and his shoulders sag.
Brett Starr: What are you doing here?
Out of the darkness of the interior Angelo Valour leans forward from his seat directly opposite of Brett Starr.
Angelo Valour: Hello Brett. Miss me?
Starr immediately rubs the bridge of his nose in frustration as he answers Valour back through clinched teeth.
Brett Starr: Look...When I resigned with CanX that didn't mean that I wanted to interact with you...like, ever again. I just figured you would use me like you always did to bring people in the door and you would just leave me be. A real win/win for everyone. Is that too much to ask?
Angelo couldn't help but laugh out loud at the thought. Since day one, Angelo Valour and Brett Starr never really liked each other...but in a weird way, both sorta needed the other. Valour needed Starr's ever annoying penchant to draw heat to help sell tickets to his shows. And Brett needed a stage. Valour's Canadian X Pro wrestling ring provided just that.
Angelo Valour: That's no way to talk to you employer Brett. You should treat me with respect...Remember, I can pull you out of the main event with just a snap of my fingers.
Brett Starr: Yeah, you could. And when I appear at all of the media events and autograph signings you have me going to what are you going to tell them? You're just sending around a wrestler who isn't even on the card around to promote your GLORIOUS return? Cut the sh*t Angie...what do you want?
Valour smirks at Starr's bravado and straight forward attitude. Much different from the man he knew previously who talked big behind a smart phone screen but backed up when confronted face to face. It seems that success has seasoned the young rookie quite nicely.
Angelo Valour: Nice hair kid. Did you finally get that vaginal reconstruction done to go with that god awful dye job?
Brett Starr: That's cute. Did you come to just insult me or did you miss me while you were spending all the time in the nuthouse after you lost almost everything when your fed collapsed under your shoddy leadership?
Valour laughs for a moment before speaking in a very confident manner.
Angelo Valour: You were always a clever one Mister Starr...I can't take that away from you. You always have a way with words. It's very annoying.
Starr smirks as he leans back into the seat in a relaxed matter.
Brett Starr: Angelo, I don't really care what you think about me...I only care that your checks cash. So if we are done-
Angelo Valour: SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH KID!
Angelo's face is flush with anger after he yelled in Starr's face. Starr can't help but chuckle at his boss's lack of control as Angelo shakes his head in frustration.
Angelo Valour: I'm sorry for yelling. I'm just legitimately angry at your blatant refusal to shut the f*ck up. You're always pushing people's buttons aren't you? Just keep pushing the damn issue time after time.
Starr's eyebrows go up in surprise at this sudden outburst from his usually confident to the point of cockiness...but he is pleased with it. Angelo sighs as he decides what exactly he wants to say.
Angelo Valour: I understand you are wondering why I am here today. I just wanted to personally welcome you back into Canada and tell you that even though I had my reservations about resigning you...I'm excited for the opportunity to work with someone with your level of-
Valour shakes his head in disbelief at the word he is about to say.
Angelo Valour: charisma.
Brett Starr: It's all nice and sweet that you are here kissing my ass...but trust me, I don't need it. Just get out of the car if you don't have anything worthwhile to say. Cool?
Valour shakes his head in disgust.
Angelo Valour: I thought losing that Legacy strap may have humbled you...but it appears I was wrong. You know what Brett? I didn't want to resign you. I didn't want you back in this company because I realize exactly what you are.
Brett Starr: And what's that?
Angelo Valour: A cancer. A disease. You are only out for yourself. You are not here to help CanX grow. You're here to milk what you can get and get out of here. I know it...I've seen it time and time again.
Brett Starr: Then let me ask you...
Starr sits at the edge of the seat and leans forward into Angelo's face...close so he can look directly into his eyes.
Brett Starr: If I'm so horrible, why did you resign me? You could have just existed just fine without me.
Angelo Valour: Because I knew I wouldn't be able to escape you. You're everywhere man. I turn on the television and I see you wrestling up in Vegas. I read a trade and they are discussing what you did to the Dynasty dynamic. I fire up my computer and you're all over twitter. Everywhere I turn it seems people are talking about Brett Starr. It's sickening. But I brought you back because I know you can help us. As long as you don't burn out before...
Starr holds his hand up and cuts Angelo mid-sentence. Starr reaches over to his right and opens the door that goes out into the drive.
Brett Starr: Get the hell out of the car. I don't care if you paid for it. I don't want to see you until the show. If you refuse...I'll fly back to Los Angeles tonight and you can get a new headliner.
Angelo Valour: Headliner? Heck, people are only talking about you because they want you to lose. Why do you think I put you against Pat Gordon Junior and Greyson? They are going to be thrilled to kick your ass in that ring. Face it kid...you're over.
Angelo smirks because he knows that it's just dawning to Starr the true reason he got signed...Canadian X Pro doesn't want him to be the champion...they want to be the ones who bury him. Starr settles back into his seat and runs his fingers through his hair in as a bit of panic rushes through him. He's always played it so safe with his career, did his lust for the Heavyweight strap prove to be his undoing? Jacob slides into the vehicle from the left side with a cautious look on his face.
Jacob Knox: What did Valour want?
Starr doesn't answer as he is still deep in thought. Knox begins to open his mouth to ask again but Starr just shakes his head to show he wasn't in the mood to talk. Jacob nods understandably as the driver closes the door. The two sit in uncomfortable silence as the screen slowly fades to black.
===================================
Brett Starr: So I was told I was being too quiet...
Brett Starr is standing in the middle of the Canadian X Pro ring that is currently locked away in storage in an undisclosed location. A single light in shining down upon him where he stands in said ring wearing a pair of blue jeans and black hoodie.
Brett Starr: It's weird, I'm usually told to shut up. But Scotty Addams is playing the big man role this week in Canadian X. Addams wants to show that he is the most important man on the card by taking shots at those who actually have a shot at the title he so desperately wants.
Starr smirks with confidence.
Brett Starr: You know...I actually like Joker's Wild. I respect what they are about and what they represent. They knew they were in a bad situation and decided to do something about it. They saw the grass was greener in CanX and immediately jumped when the opportunity presented itself. It's admirable.
But someone like Scotty...seriously, Scotty? Are you twelve? I feel like I am talking to someone who is having a Power Rangers birthday party here. But that's a topic for another day. Scotty, have you ever heard the expression don't tug on Superman's cape? Well...
Starr slowly unzips his hoodie to reveal that he is sporting a Superman "S" logo on his chest with a knowing smirk.
Brett Starr: I'm going to give you a bit of free advice because I respect what you and your crew is all about. If you happen to defeat Kessler and Jackson...then you can start throwing your stones my way. But until then, keep my name out of your mouth. If I haven't said anything, it's because I had no desire to yet. I'm not a premature promo guy...I don't have any use to just spray my words all over everyone's face, neck and chest.
Starr gives a suggestive look as he leans against the ropes facing the camera.
Brett Starr: But don't think I don't get it. This means something to you. You want the opportunity because you deserve it. I understand that feeling. Heck, I've been there. And if you win, I will be proud to defend my Heavyweight Championship against you. However, after I beat you...back of the line once again. Just like Knoxville or wherever the hell you came from.
But for now, do yourself a favor and keep my name out of your damn mouth.
Now that I have dealt with the underlings tonight...It's time for me to talk a bit about my opponents...Greyson Blaze and Pat Gordon Junior...
Starr smiles a bit as he says both of their names with a hint of humor in his voice.
Brett Starr: I'm going to start with good ol' PG. I said this earlier on twitter and I am going to reiterate it here. I like this guy. I respect the hell out of Pat because he is doing it the right way. He goes in there week after week and win or lose...you know he left it all out there in that ring. He doesn't back down and he doesn't quit. He just keeps coming one hundred percent and if you try and overlook him or doubt his abilities he will make you pay dearly for it.
However, I know what he is capable of. I've seen it directly. And while I respect him and what he can do...I do not fear Pat Gordon Junior because I know I am his superior in every way. Pat, you have an absolute wealth of wrestling ability. But I have more.
You are going to have each and every fan in that arena chanting your name in support but it will not make a lick of difference when you are facing me. You see...I am the Champion that Canadian X Pro deserves and each and every member of this roster knows this to be a fact. Including you.
At Canadian Classic Christmas, the wrongs that have been done to me will be righted. I will take my rightful place at the head of this company and I will carry this banner to heights never before seen.
Starr reaches towards the heavens as he pictures himself holding the strap above his head.
Brett Starr: But to do that, I have to beat you Pat. I hope you understand it's nothing personal because I do respect you. You are a great hand...but you aren't Heavyweight Championship material. It's just business.
Starr runs his fingers through his hair as he collects his thoughts.
Brett Starr: Speaking of business...I must admit that I have a lot of unfinished business with my other opponent this week. A man by the name of Greyson Blaze.
Blaze is the one who cost me my Legacy belt. He tried to shorten my career but sending me crashing off of a fifteen foot ladder into the unforgiving mat below. I could do nothing but watch helplessly as that scumbag Pariah tore my championship off of that hook and sullied it forever. That Legacy belt was ruined. All my hard work and effort all flushed down the toilet.
Blaze...You are as guilty as anyone for the closure of CanX. Once I lost the Legacy Belt...it lost all meaning. Fans stopped caring about our product and it allowed the Valours to bury this brand. But somehow...We are getting a second chance. The Powers that Be, the board...decided to fix their mistake and put me on the pedestal where I belong.
They see what happened after the collapse of CanX. My brand went higher and higher and Greyson Blaze just sank to the depths of the forgotten. Blaze became one of those "remember him?" guys that pro wrestling seems to churn out all the time.
Starr stands up straight and folds his arms across his chest.
Brett Starr: However, as soon as Angelo announced that CanX was opening the doors once again...Greyson Blaze was one of the first guys through the door. And when I saw that...I saw my opportunity.
Because you Greyson are my biggest regret. I should have ended you when I had the opportunity. But because of my youth and inexperience...I let you stick around. I thought I needed a foil or someone who could push me to my limits.
But after CanX closed, I realized I didn't need you. I was better with you gone. And now I am coming back to CanX to make sure you will never return again. I'm coming to cleanse the world of you and then take what is rightfully mine. The Heavyweight Championship Belt.
Starr grins widely as he thinks about holding that championship in his hands.
Brett Starr: Greyson and Pat, this is a great opportunity for you guys. You're going to be in the ring with the man who has the brightest future in this business that we love. You get to help lift me to greater heights than I have ever been. By taking you down...I am going to rise to where I belong. Thank you gentlemen for being the kindling for my fire.
At Canadian Classic Christmas...I claim my what's mine. The Era of Brett Starr is only beginning. At the end of night no one is going to be speaking about Joker's Wild, John Pariah, Autumn Raven or anyone else...The only name anyone will be speaking is mine. This is my time. And you all are borrowing from it.
Starr leans forward.
Brett Starr: And your borrowed time is up.
Starr smiles and nods as the scene fades to black.
Starr is standing outside of the Windsor Airport huddled as much as he can be in his grey winter parka that his girlfriend Chelsey bought him before he left Los Angeles. Windsor certainly is as cold as advertised...the city so cold that they put "winds" in the title. Brett Starr: No one likes a smart ass kid.
Jacob Knox: Is that why so many people hate you?
Brett Starr: Everyone loves me. I'm the exception to the rule. There is always one loophole. Always.
