I pushed my way through the glass doors and stepped into bright daylight. I had just finished yet another intensive training session with my coach and best friend, Mathew Sullivan. Sullie was a stickler for perfectionism so you can only imagine how ball busting the last three and a half hours must have been. My muscles were sore and I still seemed to have sweat pouring out of every pore on my body. I squint as I slowly get used to the flooding light of the sun. Turning toward a black backpack on my left shoulder, I rummage into the small front pocket until I find what I am looking for. I pull out a folded up pair of shades, unfold them, and slight them onto my nose.
”Much Better…”
I stretch my muscles in my shoulders as the stiff feeling known post session also seemed intense. Since my rookie days in the academy, the shoulders… they were the worst. This week was different. I had been lucky enough to come across and advertisement about a Canadian wrestling organization which was looking for competitors to wrestle for them. Fresh out of the academy, who would I have been to turn that down? Exactly... I walk down the courtyard as I look for where I parked my car. Once I noticed the Black Ford Escape, I pull my keys out of my pocket and press the little button. The SUV flashes as the locks open.
I open up the back door and chuck my bag onto the seat. It is the start of a long day as not only did I have one last intensive session to train up for Monday, but I had an appointment scheduled with a guy named Nick Cortez. Apparently he is the man to go to if you want some interview time. On top of all that, after everything is said and done, I have a long drive ahead of me before I see the relaxing lights of Halifax. I smile and the thought of the warm, salty air with the slight dampness on the skin. I can’t wait. Slamming the door shut, I turn and step toward the driver’s seat. I pull my Iphone out and check for any new message. None… I climb into the SUV.
It’s time to get this day started…
I pull into a small parking lot adjacent to a part just out of town. After locking up the SUV, I walk toward a man standing next to another who is holding a camera. I make the assumption that the man must be Cortez. He is in relatively slick clothing as it is a black and white suit. He nods at me as I come close. He closes the gap and shakes my hand.
”Cid White I assume?”
I nod/
”My name is Nick Cortez and I would like to ask you a few questions regarding the four way dance you are taking part in the Monday in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Do you have a moment?”
”Oh I definitely do. Lets get this started because I still have to drive up to Halifax. Going to be a long trip.”
”I bet. So let’s get started…”
We both turn toward the camera. He looks toward the lens as I turn to look at him. I keep my game face with my shades on my face.
”Welcome wrestling fans. I am happy to bring to you an interview with one of four men who will be competing in a four way dance at Canadian X’s premiere show. Only one man can win and the man who DOES will be given the opportunity to choose their next opponent. This gives that man a clear advantage over the other three participants set to compete in qualifying match ups next week. I have with me Cid White. This man is a rookie coming through the doors to make a name for himself as he has this golden opportunity to claim not only his very first Championship gold, but to take hold of the very first championship to grace the presence of Canadian X. Cid, how do you feel about this?”
”You know, Nick, I am fully aware that I truly am a rookie in this business but I am hungry. I train each and every day to have opportunities just like this. It is a fluke that this opportunity came across, but I will not waste it. I want to become somebody in this business and what better way to do that than to get the win over established men such as some of whom I am competing against this week. So how do I feel? I feel great. I feel confident. And I feel dominant. None of the other men have what I have.”
”And what is that?”
” An agonizing and terrifying need to best everyone around me. I strive when the competition gets fierce and so far, Nick, I haven’t seen that from any of my opponents. Maybe they underestimate me I don’t know… But the point is that they just aren’t going to see me coming. Simply put one or more of those men will understand what it feels like to have their brains White Out. I WILL drill each and every one of their skulls into that mat if I have to. I am coming into this dance swinging. You can count on it.”
”So you think you are better than names like Chris Madison or Johnny Moxie? Do you have much to say about your three competitors?”
I chuckle to myself and pat Nick on the back. I turn toward the camera and pop a sly smile at the lens.[/color]
”I hope each and every one of my opponents are watching this because I want to make this clear. I am here to do one thing and that is to make a name for myself here in my home country. I may be a rookie by I by means don’t have experience in that ring. I get in there nearly each and every day practising and handling exhibition matches. I am fully tuned and raring to go. If you count me out before the bell you are going to receive a sorry reminder on what humiliation feels like.
This is more than just a chance to put my name out there in all reality, though. The Canadian X Heavyweight Championship is what we all have our sights set on coming into the Canadian Tour Tournament. This is a huge opportunity to instantly be known as the best within the ropes up here. There is no better time than to put the balls to the wall and kick some ass. And boys… I promise you that is exactly what I am going to do. I could care less which one of you end up taking me on next week. What matters coming into this four-way is that I can kill three birds with one stone. Even if I am unlucky enough to not have my hand raised at the end of this, I will know that I went out there and laid waste to each and every one of your bodies. If you haven’t added it up yet, that means I’m going to simply destroy each and every one of you so that whoever it is that I meet next week… Well the outcome will end up the same regardless. You’ll be broken and I will stay pristine.”
I pull my glasses off, fold them, and hang them on the collar of my black wifebeater. I stare intently toward the camera with my deep brown eyes and wink.
”The fact of the matter is, boys. I’m just better than you. If you think I’m wrong than prove it. I’ll be waiting. On Monday, August the fifth, I will take the fight to the ring and win one for Canada. Count on it.
I turn to Nick and he does the same to me.
”Thank you for taking some time out of your day to have a few words for all of the wrestling fans up here in Canada. I look forward to seeing your performance come Monday. Best of luck to you.”
I nod and turn. I strut out of the cameras view before blowing out a heavy sigh. I never was much of a talker. I much preferred to show what I have inside the ring. It comes with the business, though and if you want to strive to become known in this game. You need to know how to talk to an audience.
It doesn’t take long before I am back at my SUV. Now there is one thing left to take care of… A long… Bloody… DRIVE!
